If only I could remember

By Dawn Norris

If only I could remember

If only I could recall

What happened to me?

When I was small

I close my eyes

To bring back the past

But nothing comes to me

Nothing seems to last

The memories have all gone

It’s all of a blank

What did really happen?

When I lived in sandbank

I tried to please them

But nothing ever worked

They would not listen

When I tried to talk

I really did my best

While I studied at school

But all they said to me

Was girl you’re a fool

I put on clothes

I’d try to dress smart

My mother used to say

You look like a tart

I really don’t know

Why my parents hate me

I did nothing wrong

To turn them against me

Comments

I really like this poem and it has sent a feeling to my heart and touch it deeply

I think the introspectiveness of this work is brave and probably appeals to everyone at some level

Very basic and true.  Everyone at some level must respond to this, but many in same situation relate specifically.  Brave words.
