Changed a life

By Terry Killeavy

I looked upon a strange new day, the gate did open, I was away
My time was served, regrets I had, fifteen years for something bad

That little girl I dealt a card, as my car went through her back yard
For she is now a grown young lady, and even has a little baby
Her parents gone when she was young, for my stupid thieving fun.
All alone to face the pain, for what I'd done, I was insane
If I could ever change my card, I would not crash through that backyard
I would not steal, I would not drink, I'd walk far from this sordid brink.
To say I'm sorry is not enough, I made that girl's life really tough.

Now I visit where they lay, I think about it everyday, the lives I took for such a thrill, has changed her life, it always will.

Sorry seems a trifle tame, for that little girl without a name !!!

Comments

Poetry should be about honesty and this is so here

A difficult subject dealt with by pure inspiration

Touching

I thought that was the saddest poem

Aww very touching!!
